There are loads of popular sporting events in Salt Lake City, officially the fittest city in America.

The people of Salt Lake City sure like their sports, and there are plenty of great and popular sporting events in Salt Lake City to choose from.

Interesting fact – did you know that according to a poll by Men’s Fitness Magazine in February 2009, Salt Lake City is officially the fittest city in America? How did they come to that conclusion?

• Lower percentage of citizens who are fatties
• More fitness and sports centers
• Less TV watching – why watch TV when there are so many great sporting events going on – live!
• More health food stores
• More ice cream and fast food outlets – hold on, surely that doesn’t help?

Maybe it’s because there are just so many popular sporting events in Salt Lake City that the people become inspired by their heroes, and manage to pass at least some of the ice cream and fast food outlets on their way home without having to stop for a nibble.

The Utah Valley Marathon

This fantastic 5 kilometer marathon takes in loads of the great scenery of Utah County. There are outstanding views of the mountains, and the city and Utah Lake (if you’re fit and clever enough to actually look around you and run at the same time, without falling over).

The Ultimate Challenge – The Tour of Utah

Not for the faint hearted, but as we’ve said above, Salt Lake City is the fittest in America, and some fools (um, participants) just like to go ahead and prove it. The Tour of Utah is a 96 mile cycle ride, which involves climbing almost 11,000 feet. It’s ‘America’s toughest one-day cycling adventure’, yep, you’re supposed to do it all in one day! It’s for amateurs, but takes the same route as the professionals take the following week for the real Tour of Utah.
