Athletic Events in Salt Lake City – Month by Month

January

Historically January is a pretty gloomy month. Father Christmas has already been, the world has a huge hang-over from the New Year festivities, most resolutions are already well and truly broken and forgotten, and credit card bills start dropping on the doormat to add insult to injury. Don’t worry; there is an answer – COLLEGE BASEBALL. The action starts in January and runs right through to June, so it’ll see you safely through to summer.

February

Bald Eagle Day. Okay, perhaps strictly speaking this isn’t an athletics event, but dare you tell a bald eagle he’s not a super athlete? Anyway, it’s a great day out.

April

Yes, we’ve missed March but give us a break. You’ll probably be busy stuffing your face with Easter Eggs anyway, and there’s no way we can even pretend that’s an Athletics Event, well, nothing springs to mind. April – exciting time of year because it’s the start of MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER. The excitement builds and – wham. We’re off. The Utah Jazz basketball team is also firmly in action.

May

The Salt Lake Bees are in action in May, as are the Real Salt Lake, so whatever the size of the balls, May is sure to be buzzing in Salt Lake City.

Fast Forward to September

September is COLLEGE FOOTBALL TIME and make no mistake, every game counts. You’ve got a choice here, whether you prefer the Cougars, the Aggies, the Utes, the Wildcats, the Thunderbirds or the Power Puff Girls, it’s time to get behind your team and show your support (spot the deliberate mistake, no prizes – it’s just for fun). Well, technically yes the Thunderbirds were puppets with bits of string to make them move, but these are different Thunderbirds.

Oktoberfest – not sure why the Oktoberfest is in September, but this must count as a great sporting event for Salt Lake City. To master the art of drinking such vast quantities of beer whilst table dancing without causing injury to yourself or any others takes real commitment and years of training.

November

There’s both the National Basketball Association and the College Basketball all happening in November, you’ll surely be spoilt for choice on where to get your sports event fix in November.

December

If you can bear to tear yourself away from the usual December activities of shopping, visiting and decorating the house, then maybe a trip to see the Utah Grizzlies or the Utah Jazz would be a welcome diversion. Yes, they play right through December, wonder when they do their Christmas shopping?
